Tile Space Ltd was established as a joint venture among several partners, including an overseas publicly listed company. The company's goal was to enter the UK coverings and landscaping market, streamline the distribution chain by removing an intermediary layer, and thus provide added value and better lead times through direct delivery to business-to-business clients.
Overview
As General Manager, my role encompassed overseeing various projects that were crucial to the concept, implementation, and growth of the organisation.
E-commerce development involved developing and managing the e-commerce business, which included formulating and executing strategies in line with company objectives. This entailed managing and optimising online sales channels such as websites, social media, and online marketplaces, as well as creating and overseeing e-commerce budgets for advertising and promotions. I analysed e-commerce data and metrics to pinpoint growth opportunities and areas for enhancement, ensured uniform messaging and branding across all platforms, cultivated strong relationships with external agencies to optimise expenditure and performance, and stayed abreast of e-commerce trends and innovations to recommend advancements.
Compliance and regulation: Conducted periodic reviews to verify employee adherence to regulations across the company's departments, carried out investigations to identify the root causes of compliance issues, reviewed and refined auditing processes to address or prevent compliance problems, and led the creation of programs to bolster compliance throughout the business.
Recruitment: Managed the entire process, from attracting applicants to screening, selecting, and onboarding the most suitable candidates for the organisation.
Product portfolio: Strategically managed all products within the business's portfolio, ensuring they aligned with the organisation's overarching strategy, assessed product performance, identified market opportunities, and kept up with market trends and innovations.
Property & leasing: Negotiated lease agreements for plant and rental properties. Project managed the operational site transition to scale up business operations.
Tile Space began its venture into the UK market with a small customer base, limited stock and a 3,000 square foot warehouse. By the end of my tenure, the business had relocated to a 21,000 square foot warehouse facility and achieved a significant increase in revenue and profitability.
